Part of our mission in putting on Nowhere Developers Conference is to highlight the region of Northwest Arkansas and all the amazing people and places within it.
Our next spotlight is on TheatreSquared, recognized by the American Theatre Wing (founder of the Tony Awards), as one of the nation's ten most promising emerging theatres.
Founded in 2005, TheatreSquared currently holds their performances in Nadine Baum Studios. Located just off Dickson Street, over 40,000 patrons come annually to see its 220-plus performances.
TheatreSquared has produced and hosted a wide range of shows for Northwest Arkansas including:
Amadeus by Peter Shaffer
Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, adapted by Mark Brown
It's a Wonderful Life adapted by TheatreSquared
The Hound of the Baskervilles by George Feydeau, adapted by Mark Shanahan
Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Noises Off by Michael Frayn
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
In 2015, a group of community members and artists released a vision statement about the future of TheatreSquared, stating:
“We see TheatreSquared as its own center, a destination and a place of origin. The work created here will draw audiences from near and far, and be our region’s export to the world’s theatre centers.”
A new 50,000 square-foot theatre, designed by a team of Arkansas, London and New York-based professionals, is well under-construction and will feature two theatres, dedicated rehearsal space, education and community spaces, on-site workshops, three-level outdoor terraces and more.
No trip to Northwest Arkansas would be complete without seeing a TheatreSquared performance! Be sure to stop by during your trip for Nowhere Developers Conference.
